International exchange events: 2021-2022 academic year (Reiwa 3)

August 2021	AUA: 2 4th-year students from the Creative Manufacturing Design department (woodworking) Linköping University: 3 graduates from Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies program (MLU)	Online exchange with MLU (8/23) Students from the woodworking program in the Creative Manufacturing Design department held an online exchange with graduates from one of our partner schools, the Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies program at Linköping University (Sweden). This exchange provided the participants with the opportunity to share examples of their work, and to consider how their different cultural backgrounds have influenced their ways of thinking about their craft.
October 2021	Prof. Isamu OZAWA (Liberal Arts Core) Prof. Shigeaki IWAI (Multidisciplinary Arts)	Online lectures (10/15, 10/22) AUA Professors Isamu Ozawa and Shigeaki Iwai delivered lectures as part of the online seminar “2021 Taiwanese and Japanese International Art Exchange” hosted by Tainan University of Technology (Taiwan).
October 2021	AUA: 6 students AIU: 6 students Instructors: Prof. Takahito KOMURE, Assoc. Prof. Kentaro SENUMA, Teaching Assistant Haruna OHKI Support: 5 3rd-year students from the Creative Manufacturing Design department (glass)	Glass blowing workshop (10/30) Students from AUA and Akita International University (AIU) learned the basics of glass blowing, planning and producing their own glass works with the help of instructors and students from the Creative Manufacturing Design department.
November – December 2021	AUA: 2 students AIU: 1 student SNU: 9 students Guests: Teresa Dillon (Activist; Professor, University of the West of England), Fumiaki AONO (Artist)	Online workshop with Shiv Nadar University (11/1-12/6) Students from AUA and Akita International University in Japan joined students from Shiv Nadar University (SNU) in India for an online workshop centered around the theme of “Repair.” Participants heard lectures from guest speakers and also presented their own research on the topic.
November 2021	AUA: 6 students AIU: 1 student Guests: Juri ASANO (Artist), Akio TOMATSU (“Motai Sumiyaki Project”), Shoichi NISHIMURA (President, Hiyama Natto)	“Sumiyaki Workshop” (11/27) Students from AUA and Akita International University traveled to Motai and Hiyama districts in Noshiro City, in the northern part of Akita Prefecture. There they learned about a traditional low-carbon method of making coal called “sumiyaki,” and also toured a local natto (fermented soybean) factory.
