Profile

After working in the interior design section of Ilya Corporation (Tokyo), Prof. Imanaka formed Design Unit I&I with Yoshiaki Ito in 1997. He has undertaken projects in a wide range of fields, including spatial production, furniture design, machine design, graphic design, corporate identity, and database programming. The two major themes of his work are the compatibility of Japanese traditional culture and modern society, and the unity of structure and form. In 2003, he established r-homeworks, a design firm based in Tokyo, seeking to contribute to the evolution of living environments and searching for the values that will shape future society. He joined Akita University of Art as an instructor in 2013, and has been further expanding his field of activities to include areas such as art direction. His main areas of expertise are interior planning, furniture design and product design. He is also an avid downhill cyclist.
